Someone Just Turned One!

Sophia had her first birthday on January 5th but we celebrated it this past weekend. It was a lot of fun getting together with Scott's family and a break for the two of us since we had many willing hands/arms to hold Addison and Caroline. Happy Birthday Sophia....we love you!!

The classic first cake pictures...

All the helping hands...

Janet certainly had the touch with both of them

Aunt Marne found a spare moment and was a great hostess

Great Grandma Hornaday

Grandma Anne

As many new moms do, I got a hair cut! I originally was going to get my hair cut when I was still pregnant but I ended up having 2 children the day I had planned on getting it. Oh well. Either way I am done with my long hair for now. Thank goodness!

Some more pictures from the past week or so...
Caroline and I having a one on one moment. I cherish these because they do not happen all them time and especially uninterrupted ones!

Both girls love to be held/sleep like this and I am expecting this to only last for another couple months. I will be sad when it is over. This picture was taken right after Scott got home from work. He generally finds me holding both of them when he comes home because from around 5:30 to basically when they go to bed they both like to be held continuously so putting one of them down for even a couple minutes usually does not work. It is somewhat easy right now but we will see how it goes as they get bigger.

Caroline ready to go to church. She is in her Bolivian outfit and I just thought she looked so cute!

My parents have this cute baby buggy and I finally remembered to take a picture of the 2 of them in there before they got too big. As you can see, Caroline was hanging over the edge before we adjusted her a little farther in it.
They don't look so excited about this

Gwen saw me holding Addison on my shoulder and she picked up Caroline to do the same. Just when I think Gwen has done everything cute with these girls she can possibly do she does another cute thing. She also still says a lot "they are so small" or "look at their hands, they are so small." I can't get enough of Gwen's interactions with them. Love it!

Aunt Elsa taking a nap with Addison

Taking a nap at home. I think they look the most similar when they are sleeping. Can you tell who is who???

Answer: Caroline is on the left and Addison is on the right.
The hazard of sleeping right next to someone who likes to either have their arms totally stretched out to the side or above their head. Don't worry, Addison can breath. I checked. Actually, they are rarely this close when they sleep anymore but we were on the couch so I had them closer together since there is not as much room.

Here is a continuation of the "modern mom"...the "modern dad" with twins. Who said you can't check fantasy sports while taking care of 2 babies!

One Month Check-up

The girls had their one month check up today and I am very happy to report that they are both doing great! Addison weighs 6 lbs, 12 oz and is 19 inches and Caroline weighs 7 lbs, 13 oz and is 20 inches. Caroline is officially out of preemie clothes! They both got a shot and handled it pretty well. There is really not much more to report which is a good thing.

Addison and Caroline met Oliver Barnes this past week. I think that Addison took a liking to him. Caroline was just sleeping and eventually was crying.

He looks huge compared to them and he is only 10 weeks.

Something I have been enjoying is going to playgroup at church every Tuesday morning. It has been a great introduction for me taking them out by myself. So far they have been no problem but that is just 2 weeks so we will see what the future brings.
Here are Gwen, Jackson and Caleb holding babies

I thought this was cute since their arms are in the same positions

I was attempting to get a picture of them sitting up but Caroline was only interested in sleeping. Oh well.

They are getting better at holding things. They both held their rattles longer in their left hands so I am wondering if that is an early indicator that they will be left handed. It's probably too early to tell.
Addison was looking at the camera right before I took this. Next time...

One Year Anniversary and One Month Old

This past Sunday, January 3rd, Scott and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary! We celebrated by reminiscing about our wedding and honeymoon on our way to church and then having our annual family progressive dinner. So we were basically with people all day. We were able to squeeze in a quick lunch with just the 4 (ha!) of us between church and the progressive dinner though. We will actually be celebrating on my birthday (the 22nd) when we can have my parents babysit and go out for a nice dinner just the 2 of us.

People don't usually have a baby, let alone two, during their first year of marriage but I would not have it any other way. We had a great first year even though I was pregnant for most of it. Scott is a wonderful husband and now a wonderful father. What more could I ask for? I am looking forward to many more years to come. Love you Scott!!

On a different note....

The girls are already a month old!! Time really does fly. It has been a lot of fun getting to know Addison and Caroline this past month. We will have their current weights in a week when we go in for their one month check-up but for now we can tell you that they are still wearing preemie clothes (though they have grown out of the smallest brand) and they are still in newborn size diapers. They should outgrow both soon.

Here is Addison the day she was born

Here she is one month old. (Sorry the picture is a bit blurry)

Here is Caroline the day she was born

and one month later

The girls have certainly become plumper which is a great thing since that means they have put on weight!! I would guess that Addison is 6 pounds and that Caroline is 7 pounds. They may be 7 and 8 pounds by the time we have the appointment next week.
Right now we are enjoying them sleeping in 4 hour stretches at night and Caroline has the cutest whimper. Addison loves to sleep on your chest while Caroline either likes to be held away from your chest while being bounced or being held in the burping position (the position on your lap not your chest).
We are looking forward to when they will begin smiling at us and making more noises.

More Cousin Time

This was the second time Sonja was really around the babies where we could see her interact with them. The first time she was not really interested. With a one year old you expect them to not really get it and to not be that gentle with them but to our surprise Sonja was great! Here she is rubbing Caroline's belly.

Besides rubbing their bellies she also likes to give them their pacifiers. This is pretty impressive considering she uses one herself but she knows which ones are theirs and which one is hers. She usually does not make it to their mouth but it is still cute :)

Sonja loved their cradle. She was swinging her body and rocking it back and forth.

Gwen multitasking: holding Addison and playing gameboy

And a picture of both girls in the cradle that my dad made for me when I was a baby

More Randoms....

Just another cute picture of them. They like to sleep with their arms in the air when they are not swaddled.

The nursery is still in progress. We at least have both the cribs now and a big thanks to Scott's cousin Rebecca for giving the girls these blankets that she made for Christmas. We love them! There a several more things I want to do still so stay tuned for some more finished pictures.

Scott multi-tasking....working out and calming Addison

Now calming Caroline

Scott thought it would be great to have Addison do her tummy time on top of Caroline. As you can see from Caroline's right hand, I don't think she liked that.
